The principal disciple of Dragpa Gyaltsen was his nephew, the great Sakya Pandita who lived from 1182 to 1251 C.E.. Sakya Pandita, one of Two Red Masters of the Five Sakya Patriarchs, studied Buddhist and non-Buddhist philosophy, logic, Sanskrit, poetry, astrology and art with countless Indian, Nepalese, Kashmiri and Tibetan masters. At the age of twenty-seven he became a fully ordained monk.
His works such as the Treasury of Logic on Valid Cognition (Tsod-ma rigs-gter) and the Discrimination of the Three Vows (sDom-gsum rab-dbye - see below) are famous even to this day.
Literature:
- Ordinary Wisdom - Sakya Pandita's Treasury of Good Advice, transl. by John T. Davenport;
- A Clear Differentiation of the Three Codes: Essential Differentiations Among the Individual Liberation, Great Vehicle, and Tantric Systems, transl. by Jared Rhoton.
